Buying in the Inner West: what you need to know
The Inner West is not one market, it is about thirty of them sitting on top of each other. Value swings on which street, which side of it, and how long the walk to the station actually takes once you have done it in the rain. A suburb median tells you very little about the house you are standing in.
Victorian and Federation terraces, workers' cottages, interwar semis, warehouse conversions and a rising volume of new apartments. Each carries its own trap. Damp and rear lane access decide the terraces, the strata report matters more than the finish on a conversion, and two semis can look identical on paper and be nothing alike in practice.
We buy here frequently, and that is the whole point. Knowing which streets carry a discount for rail noise, which blocks will never fit a second car, and what a place is genuinely worth on the day is the difference between paying a fair price and paying the price the campaign was built to get.
